Guild Wars 2, the first expansion pack
Written by Timefounder

Wow.

I feel like this post should give some hint of the awesomeness that is in the works for Guild Wars 2, and Guild Wars: Eye of the North.  But I don't think I can pick out anything short enough to fit on this page.  You just need to check out the official press release.  Now.

They Speak!

Factions and Prophecies now have lip-syncing for their cinematics.  Hooray for older version support; although I think I prefer the mysterious speaking without mouth movement than distortion caused by the lip-syncing.  Maybe this update also included some updates to older character face models to support lip-syncing better.

Note that this technically falls under the category of game update; so feel free to check out that section for all your update referencing needs.

Special event and rant

This weekend, Heroes' Ascent will test going back to an 8 player party.  For those of us who don't PvP, Canthan elite missions are going to open up to everyone for the weekend with a double drop rate on rares inside them.

It seems odd that Factions is getting special events, rather than Nightfall.  I'm guessing the code is already in place to bump up drop rates and elite mission access and A.net is too busy with PvP to reward those of us who purchased Nightfall within the first three months of its life cycle.  Or they could be making up for Wintersday skipping Cantha.

Yes, I will complain no matter where location specific PvE events are; unless they cycle through every chapter.

Aside: to date, there have been 3 weekend events that affected Prophecies PvE; all of which were in effect across all current campaigns:

Double Experience scroll drop and duration, September 2006

Double Experience from elite skill capture, September 2006

Double Experience from elite skill capture, January 2007

Whoever can give me the best (most entertaining) reason for why there is no love for Prophecies owners/players gets their reasoning posted on the front page.  Feel free to start forum threads.  Please don't make me the only person who gave myself a reason.

Oh, and  you can click read more to see the official announcement regarding the coming event.
