Nightfall is available in some stores now (I bought mine from Best Buy); and will be accessible at 12:01 a.m. PDT Friday on October 27th.
In unrelated news, I seriously doubt I will ever be able to spell "Available" correctly the first time.

You can now purchase special versions of Prophecies and Factions for $39.99 instead of the normal $49.99. These version replace purchasable skill unlocks, and grant access to all PvP play and unlock all skills for that expansion. This seems like a good way to unlock all skills or bring a friend into just PvP play at a discounted price; perhaps to woo him or her into the full game.

Gamespot has an excellent preview of Nightfall found at this link. It includes information on Heroes (including the ability to return to Tyria or Cantha with them), mission count, and controlling giant wurms. You read correctly; giant wurms, as your character.
I will be purchasing Nightfall very, very, soon, and I suggest you do the same.
