Rangers have exclusive rights to the attribute Expertise. If you choose to make Ranger your primary class you gain access to the attribute. What makes Expertise so special is that it reduces the energy cost of every single skill in the Rangers arsenal. No matter what classification ta particular skill fits under, if the Ranger has points in the Expertise attribute, the skill will cost less to perform.
Below is a chart highlighting the energy cut Expertise gives to various base energy costs.

As the above chart shows us, obviously you get the most "bang for your buck" with Expertise in skills that require the most energy to perform. With 16 points in Expertise a spell that originally cost 25 energy will only cost 9 energy.
The problem is that Rangers do not have alot of skills that have a base cost of 25 energy. However, Rangers do have a large portion of skills that have base 10-15 energy cost. As you can see these skills get reduced to 4 energy and 5 energy respectivly with 16 points in Expertise.
For a template that revolves around a ranger producing a large portion of damage through skill spam I believe that expertise is a good investment. If a ranger can cast twice as many spells before his energy pool is gone, he has a much longer time of effectiveness. In the battles that last 30-40 minutes, having characters that can sustain their damage for long periods of time is ideal, which makes Expertise a wonderful attribute to utlilize. |
